Final project software research: Pro Tools

In this post I made a research about Pro Tools is a digital audio work station created by Avid in 1989 for Mac and Windows and this is the software I have been using to carry out my final project: Dude's Theme.

Pro Tools functions as stand-alone software as well as in combination with a variety of external PCIe cards that have on-board digital signal processors (DSP) and analog-to-digital converters. In order to handle real-time effects like reverb, equalization, and compression and to achieve lower latency audio performance, the DSP is employed to provide the host computer more processing capacity. Along with additional features that are exclusive to the digital domain, like non-linear and non-destructive editing (most audio handling is done without overwriting the source files), track compositing with multiple playlists, time compression and expansion, pitch shifting, and faster-than-real-time mixdown, Pro Tools can perform the functions of a multitrack tape recorder and a mixing console, just like any other digital audio workstation software (Collins, 2012).

"For many musicians, recording engineers, and producers alike—at Abbey Road Studios and Skywalker Sound, right on down to the smallest bedroom studios—Pro Tools feels like home. It's still the best audio editing app for larger studios with lots of outboard hardware and the need for extensive support networks, and its workflow remains second to none"( Lendino, 2022).

The reason I chose to work with that software is because I have been using Pro Tools since 2019, so that I am really acquainted with it's interface, tools and shortcuts. On this project I used this software both to record and mix the tracks, it's native plugins such as compressor, reverb and equalizer works very well to carry on this project and I am satisfied with the outcomes I got.
